Dear Families,
Thank you for a wonderful first week! As I told the class, it was love at first sight for me!
We are working diligently at getting the Daily 5 literacy structure up and running in our classroom. We began with Read to Self. The students have enough stamina to read between 3 and 13 minutes at a stretch. This is excellent with only 4 days under our belts. Our goal is to reach 20 minutes and then we'll add Word Work.
Your students have been learning about respect, responsibility and being their best - our class rules.
In math, the students completed an initial assessment and a pre-assessment for Unit 1: Reviewing Number and Time Concepts. We will work in this unit for the next 2 weeks while learning touch math and beginning math facts timings.
On the first day of each week, the students will be writing about what they did over the weekend. You can help prepare your child by brainstorming things they could say in their writing.
In science, we have been learning about seeds and plants. We watched some videos, observed the inside of a seed, and constructed a paper model of a seed. I hope your child is enjoying his/her pocket bean too. Exciting changes should take place in the beans soon! I invite your child to look for seeds in and around your house, mount and label them on a paper plate, and bring them to school to display them in our seed museum.
Enjoy your week!
