Last week, we read Chinatown. We took the comprehension assessment and enjoyed a fun Chinese New Year.
This week we'll begin reading Lions at Lunchtime, one of the Magic Tree House series books. It is set in Africa and will give us information about African animals.
Last week in writing, the class wrote weekend news letters and made valentines for my son, Ron, who is stationed in Afghanistan. He's only got another month until he can return home to his family. Yahoo!
This week we'll write a Star of the Week letter to Joshua, write weekend news letters, and begin writing a report about hippos to go along with our study of Africa.
Last week, we finished Topic 7: More Measurement and Geometry, and took the assessment. We made cool, symmetrical dragon masks too.
This week we'll begin Topic 8: Place Value: Numbers to 1,000. We'll practice counting by 20s, 25s, and 50s. We'll also read and order 3-digit numbers. We'll celebrate Hundred's Day on Thurs. Feb. 10 (Correction due to the last snow day.) Please bring your projects for sharing.
Last week we made the background and some animals for our frieze (mural) of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The kids did an amazing job. I can't wait for you to see their work! We have more work to accomplish before inviting all of you in for an African celebration. More details will come your way soon!
We have enough milk jugs now. We'll be making valentine holders from them. You'll hardly recognize them when we're finished! Please notice the valentine list in Room 22's information section of this blog, in case your child would like to distribute valentines to everyone in class. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered supplies and help for our party. Christine, you did a great job of planning & organizing a fun party for us. The kids will be thrilled!
