Week of October 25, 2010

Hi all,

We had another amazing week! Thank you for sending your child rested, fed, and prepared each day!

Last week in reading, we successfully added Listen to Reading to Daily 5. This week, we'll continue with Read to Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing, and  Listen to Reading. Our story will be Days with Frog and Toad.

Last week in math, we worked on measurement using inches and centimeters. We also worked with 2-D shapes and learned about parallel lines. Please ask your child to point out parallel lines at home. You should hear that parallel lines go on forever and ever. They never touch or cross. They are straight lines that can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. There has to be at least two lines, but there can me more. This week we'll work more with 2-D shapes and finish Topic 3.

Last week in writing, we wrote friendly letters and true adventure stories for the District's writing prompt. This week the class will be doing thank you letters for the people from the Gualamalan rain forest and the fire fighters that came to review fire safety with us. Has your student helped you make and practice a fire safety plan for your home?

Last week in social studies, we finished Ch. 2 How Are Communities Different? This week we will work on Ch. 3 How Do We Use Maps? Please share and discuss any maps you use with your student.

Thank you for collecting Boxtops for Education proofs of purchases.

Again, many thanks to all of you awesome volunteers!  I hope you enjoy helping us as much as we enjoy having your help!

Please consider helping with the Harvest Carnival and signing up for a conference if you haven't already.

Enjoy your week!
