Week of November 15

Hi all,

The students did well reading their parts for the Veteran's Day assembly. Bravo!

Last week in reading, we continued with Read to Self, Word Work, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading and Read to Someone.

This week our featured story will be Wilson Sat Alone. This is a cute story about a boy who learns what it takes to really be an integrated member of a group.

Last week in math, we finished Topic 4, took the assessment, and we also took a District first trimester assessment. I'll share the results at conferences.

This week we'll begin Topic 5: Adding and Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers. This is an important topic for learning and practicing addition and subtraction strategies, including regrouping.
Last week in writing, we wrote weekend news letters and sent letters to my son, Ron.

This week, we'll write weekend news letters and work on capitals and punctuation within our writing.

Last week in social studies, we worked on  Ch 5: How Do People Use Our Environment?

This week we'll finish and take the assessment over Ch. 5.

In science, we'll begin our study of fossils. On Wednesday we'll have an in-house field trip about fossils given by Nature Vision.

Also on Wednesday, Nov. 17, our class will have a popcorn party. We earned this by collecting the most Boxtops for Education. If your child either doesn't like or can't eat popcorn, please send a special treat for him/her that day.

As you know, we lost two of our frogs, but the other two were doing well on Friday. We named them Hopper and Froggy.

Friday we start parent conferences. Please check the schedule for your time. School is dismissed at 11:25 on conference days.

Enjoy your week!
