What a great harvest carnival! All of the second graders seemed to have a wonderful time. Many thanks to all of the volunteers. The second grade team couldn't host an event like this without you!
Please send a waterproof coat with your child each day. The kids look forward to outside recess whenever the weather permits.You may want to check the lost and found for misplaced clothing too.
Last week in reading, we continued with Read to Self, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading. We added Read to Someone. The class needs a little more guided practice and then they'll be able to read to a friend on their own. This week we won't do a new story because of the short week.
Last week in math, we began learning about regrouping with a "Trade-a-Ten" machine. This week we'll continue to work with 3-digit numbers.
Last week in writing, we wrote friendly letters to Stars of the Week and the Guatamalan rain forest presenters. We also wrote fun leaf poems complete with leaf rubbings. This week we'll write weekend news letters and send cards to a special veteran, my son Ron, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. Ron always gets a kick out of second grade writing and drawing!
Last week in social studies, we worked on Ch. 4: What is Geometry? This week we'll take the assessment and move onto Ch 5: How Do People Use Our Environment?
In case your student hasn't told you, our class will be reading a special poem to honor the flag and our veterans at the Veteran's Day assembly, Wednesday morning at 9:15 in the multipurpose room. Please have your student wear red, white, and blue too!
We are enjoying the African Dwarf Frogs. They seem to be adapting to their home in the classroom. The kids are writing their observations in a special journal. Please feel free to add you observations when you visit the classroom.
Remember, no school on Thursday to celebrate Veteran's Day.
