Many thanks for the wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week you and your children gave to Ms Hindman and me! We are honored to work with your loving, giving children everyday!
Please notice the ABC Countdown under the second grade tab on the blog. It begins on Thursday.
Last week we:
- continued with Social Studies Topic 8 - How Can I Be a Good Shopper?
- read a story called Anthony Reynoso, Born to Rope. We watched an online video which showed Anthony, as an adult, performing with his family.
- conferenced with Ms Hindman about the drafts we wrote about ourselves.
- finished Topic 10: Fractions, Probability, and Time and took the assessment.
- practiced being social detectives.
- observed our caterpillars
- went to an awards assembly where we surprised the teachers with kind words and cubs' water bottles and lanyards.
- celebrated Cinco de Mayo
- wrote thank you letters to Wells Fargo Bank for the books they gave our classroom. Thank you Mrs. Brady for sharing these books with us each Wednesday!
This week we'll:
- read and take an assessment over a story called Abuela, a fantasy story about a grandmother and child. It will fit in nicely with the Spanish Ms Hindman is teaching us.
- continue being social detectives
- finish social studies Unit 8 - How Can I Be a Good Shopper?
- practice subtraction math facts with a music cd.
- begin math Topic 11: Multiplication and Division Concepts.
- observe our caterpillars - Please ask your student if their caterpillars have gone into the "J" shape, or formed their crysalises. The students are learning that only caterpillars that turn into moths form cocoons.
- finish final copies about ourselves.
- write letters to our reading buddies to encourage them as they begin the MSP.
I added multiplication and division to Xtra Math for your students. They should continue to practice math facts each day for the rest of the year. They can continue to practice facts, through this website. over the summer as well!
Enjoy your week!
