Week of November 1, 2010

Hi all,

I hope you enjoyed a safe & happy Halloween!

Last week in reading, we continued with Read to Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading. We read Days with Frog and Toad. This week we'll add the final component to Daily 5 - Read to Someone. We'll practice this skill with this week's story Helping Out. Hopefully your student will be looking for new ways to help the adults in their lives.

Last week in math, we finished Topic 3 and took the assessment. We also began Topic 4: Numbers to 1,000 and Number Patterns. This week we'll continue in Topic 4 building on our knowledge of number patterns, and place value.

Last week in writing, we wrote friendly letters to the firemen and paragraphs about Halloween. This week the class will be doing some more Halloween writing along with those thank you letters for the people from the Gualamalan rain forest that we didn't get to last week.
Last week in social studies, we finished Ch. 3 How Do We Use Maps? and took the assessment. This week we'll begin work on Ch. 4: What is Geometry?
Special thanks to:  Faith's mom for the chocolate chip cookies, the anonymous person who left the yummy treat in my mailbox, Cara's parents for the aquarium and the African Dwarf Frog, and to all of you who put in so many hours helping us inside and outside of our classroom!
Last call for signing up for a conference if you haven't already. I'm can be flexible with appointment times to meet your needs.

Enjoy your week!
