Hi all,
Your kids are so incredible!
Last week we successfully added Work on Writing to Daily 5. This week, we'll continue with Read to Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing, we'll also add Listen to Reading. Our story this week will be a continuation of The Secret Life of Trees.
In math, we worked on measurement using non-standard units. We also learned about measuring with inches, feet, and yards. The kids were excited about getting measured for the chart inside our door. We'll practice measuring with centimeters and meters this week.
In writing, we wrote friendly letters, finished the food paragraph final copies, and took a piece about candy through the writing process. I'm sending them home, so I hope you enjoy their fine writing! This week the class will be doing the District's writing prompt. It is a personal narrative. They will be scored by second grade teachers from other schools. I'll share the results with you at conferences, so if you haven't signed up for a time yet, please look at the schedule on this blog and email me with a convenient time.
In social studies, we finished Ch. 1 Communities and took the assessment. We also began Ch. 2 How Are Communities Different? We're comparing and contrasting urban, suburban, and rural communities. Please ask your child what he/she is learning.
The kids made adorable handprint bats last week. Please notice them on the bulletin board outside our classroom. Also, on the wall by the library, you'll see the beautiful rain forest animals the students created.
Please continue to collect Boxtops for Education proofs of purchase for the school-wide contest.
Many thanks to all of you awesome volunteers! The kids and I enjoy having you in class and we appreciate all you do for us in and out of the classroom.
Don't forget to read the Harvest Carnival information under second grade business. We'll look forward to a fun time, with your help!
Enjoy your week!
