Week of October 11, 2010

Hi all,

Last week went by so fast, a few of our plans had to be carried over to this week!

During Daily 5 this week, we'll continue with Read to Self and Word Work. The kids are handling the transition between these two components so well that we'll add a third - Work on Writing this week. We ran out of time for the fun poem, so we'll get to it this week. Our story this week is The Secret Life of Trees. Please ask your student about some fascinating facts about trees.

In math, we finished Topic 2 and took the assessment. This week we'll pretest Topic 3: Measurement and Geometry and begin to work through the lessons.

In writing, we'll write friendly letters, finish the food paragraph final copies, and take another piece through the writing process.

In social studies, we learned alot as we celebrated Livestrong Day. We finished and presented our group communities and we enjoyed the visitors who taught us about a conservation project for the Guatamalan rain forest. The kids also made incredible drawings of rain forest animals! This week we'll finish Ch. 1 Communities and take the assessment.

Please collect Boxtops for Education proofs of purchase for the school-wide contest.

Just a reminder to send your child with a coat every day. The weather can change fast in Washington. Also, please remember to call the attendance line if your child will be absent.

Please remind your child to read 20 minutes for 20 days this month, practice math facts daily, and turn in the reading/math log on Nov. 1. The Oct. 1 log can also still be turned in.

If you're interested in a fun blog for busy moms, please check out the link below. It's my daughter's blog. You will see the class bringing home projects taken from this blog from time to time. You may enjoy some of the projects at home too!

Enjoy your week!
