Week of October 4

Hi all,

Happy October!

During Daily 5 this week, we'll continue with Read to Self and Word Work. Our story this week is Henry and Mudge. We'll do a fun poem project to go along with this story.

In math, we'll work on addition and subtraction story problems. We'll also take timed practices of addition math facts.

In writing, we'll write friendly letters and finish taking a piece about food through the writing process.

In social studies, we'll celebrate Livestrong Day. We'll also make group communities and have visitors to teach us about a conservation project for the Guatamalan rain forest.

Please collect Boxtops for Education proofs of purchase for the upcoming school-wide contest.

Just a reminder to send your child with a coat every day. The weather can change fast in Washington. Also, please remember to call the attendance line if your child will be absent.

Please remind your child to read 20 minutes for 20 days this month, practice math facts daily, and turn in the reading/math log on Nov. 1. The Oct. 1 log can also still be turned in.

Mrs. Ryan, a budding new teacher, will be joining us for 30 hours this month. She'll be helping and observing our class in the afternoons several times a week.

As part of my collaborative technology work for this year, my husband, Bob, will be in on Wednesday to film our math lesson on graphs. Mrs. Saxton and Mrs. Carter will be viewing the film to give me feedback on the lesson and to teach the same lesson to their classes. It should be fun for him and the class too!

Enjoy your week!
