Week of January 10, 2011

Your students have helped me get back into the swing of things. They have been awesome! They are focused and ready to learn. Thank you for making sure they're rested, fed, and at school on time each day.

Last week, we read Hedgehog Bakes a Cake and took the comprehension assessment. I hope you enjoyed some yummy yellow cake!
This week we will read and take the comprehension assessment Lemonade for Sale. This story illustrates the importance of using a graph to keep track of important data.
Last week, the class began Topic 6: Working with Money, Time, and Data. They practiced using as many quarters as possible when making different amounts of money. They also learned about elapsed time and reading the clock to 5 minute intervals. Please continue to practice counting money and telling time using an analog clock.
Last week in writing, the class worked on stories about their winter vacations. We'll be ready to share them this week. I can't wait to hear all about what kept them busy over the break!

This week, we'll write letters to Stars of the Week and some winter poetry.

Last week at school in science we worked on concepts related to solids, liquids, and gases. We'll continue our s, l, & g explorations this week.
Enjoy your week!
