Week of January 17, 2011

Last week in writing, the class finished stories about their winter vacations. We shared most of the
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Please take time to talk with your student about treating everyone fairly and with kindness, so that Martin Luther King, Jr.'s work continues to be honored at CVES.

Last week, we read Lemonade for Sale. and took the comprehension assessment. This week we will begin reading Johnny Appleseed, a Readers' Theater. We will perform this play for our reading buddies and take the comprehension assessment next week. 

Last week, we finished Topic 6: Working with Money, Time, and Data.  We will take the assessment for Topic 6, take the pre-assessment for Topic 7: More Measurement and Geometry, and do a couple of Topic 7 lessons this week.

stories. This week we will finish sharing and move onto more winter writing. We'll also write letters to Stars of the Week.

Last week we worked through the Solids, Liquids, and Gases science kit. This week we'll finish our observations and recordings.

We will begin our study of Africa this week too. Your student should come home with tales of our preparations for the flight to Kenya!
