Week of January 24, 2011

Hi all,

Last week, we read Johnny Appleseed, a Readers' Theater. This week we will continue reading the play and perform it for our reading buddies on Friday. We'll also take the comprehension assessment on Friday.

Last week in writing, the class wrote letters to Stars of the Week, weekend news letters, and observations about expected behaviors when lining up. We finished sharing our vacation writing too. This week we'll write weekend news letters and some winter poetry.

Last week, we began Topic 7: More Measurement and Geometry. We began learning about lines of symmetry. It would be helpful to work with your student to find lines of symmetry around your house or in your travels. This week we'll work more with symmetry and do some work with 2D shapes too.
Last week we prepared ourselves as photographers and got our passports for our trip to Kenya. We started reading about Africa with our reading buddies too. We still need to plan and pack for our trip, so we'll take care of those details this week.

Thanks for sending in clean, plastic, gallon milk jugs. We've collected 5 already! Every student will need one for our special Valentine's Day project.
Enjoy your week!
