Week of January 31, 2011

Hi all,

Last week, we read Johnny Appleseed, a Readers' Theater. We took the comprehension assessment and performed the play for our reading buddies on Friday. I hope you all received the video via email and that you were able to view it. The kids read well and were adorable!

This week we'll be reading Chinatown in conjunction with beginning of Chinese New Year on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Last week in writing, the class wrote weekend news letters, wrote about winter activities, and made some adorable snow globes.

This week we'll write a Star of the Week letter to Lily, write weekend news letters, and do some more winter-themed writing.

Last week, we began Topic 7: More Measurement and Geometry. We worked  with symmetry and did some work with 2D shapes too.

This week we'll focus on charts and graphs to finish up Topic 7. We'll do a cool Chinese New Year project that incorporates symmetry too.

Last week we planned and packed for our trip to Kenya. This week we'll work on making a frieze (mural) of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Thanks for sending in  gallon milk jugs. We've collected enough for all 23 students.

Enjoy your week!
