April 25, 2011

Last week we:
 - continued with social studies Topic 7 - Who Provides Services in a Community? We learned about several important service jobs people do in our community.
 - read a story called How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Please ask your student about the fantasy Wallace wrote about.
 - worked more with nouns, including proper nouns (need capital letters) We began a writing activity which required the name of the street you live on. Many of the students did not know this information. Please make sure your children know their addresses and phone numbers in case of emergency.
 - continued with Topic 10: Fractions, Probability, and Time. We learned how to find 1/2 and 1/4 of an array ( arrays are arranged in columns and rows, which contain the same number of objects)
 - practiced being social detectives.
 - celebrated Earth Day
 - attended an in-house field trip about insects through Nature Vision

This week we'll:
 - read and take an assessment over a story called Good Bye Curtis. This story is about a much loved mailman who retires from serving his community.
 - participate in the walk-a-thon
 - continue social studies Unit 7: Who Provides Services in a Community.
 - practice subtraction math facts with a music cd.
 - continue Topic 10: Fractions, Probability, and Time. We'll work more with equivalent fractions and make fraction tulips.

We will not need "mom" parent volunteers this week. "Dad" volunteers will be very welcome though!

Enjoy your week!
