Hi all,

Thanks for joining us for the Mom's Morning!

Please notice the ABC Countdown under the second grade tab on the blog. Tomorrow is "D" day. Please send $2 to pay for pizza later in the month.

Last week we:
 - took an assessment over Social Studies Topic 8 - How Can I Be a Good Shopper?
 - read a story called Abuela. We also learned some new Spanish words in this story.
 - finished the final copies of the stories we wrote about ourselves.
 - began Topic 11: Multiplication and Division Concepts. We learned that multiplication is a fast way of adding the same number more than once.
 - practiced being social detectives.
 - were introduced to Superflex (super hero who represents flexible thinking) and the Team of Unthinkables, Rock Brain, Brain Eater, Wasfunnyonce, Un-wonderer, Body Snatcher, D.O.F. The Destroyer of Fun, Space Invader, Glass man, Grump Grumpaniny, Topic Twister Meister, Energy Hare-y, One-Sided Sid, Worry Wall, and  Mean Jean. If you're curious about this social thinking curriculum, the website is http://www.socialthinking.com/.
 - observed our caterpillars as they all moved to the chrysalis stage in their life cycle.
 - did a fun art activity with special "scratch" paper
 - enjoyed the last Wells Fargo Bank book with Mrs. Brady.
 - learned some new songs and dances from our reading buddies and Ms Henley.

This week we'll:
 - read and take an assessment over a story called Ruth Law Thrills a Nation, a true story about a female aviator.
 - continue to be social detectives
 - learn more about Superflex and the Team of Unthinkables
 - begin social studies Unit 9 How Do Communities Change?
 - practice subtraction math facts with a music cd.
 - continue math Topic 11: Multiplication and Division Concepts.
 - observe our chrysalises - Will any emerge as butterflies this week?
 - make posters for our reading buddies to encourage them as they begin the MSP.
 - write letters to Mr. Wilson to show our appreciation for all he does for us.

Remember, I added multiplication and division to Xtra Math for your students. They should continue to practice math facts each day for the rest of the year. They can continue to practice facts, through this website. over the summer as well!

Enjoy your week!
